Hi everyone,
We started our team matches with a sweep over Clemson this past Saturday. Our team used a couple of new doubles teams. We are still trying some different looks but feel like this will be a strength.
Against Clemson we got great singles play from every spot but in particular from our three seniors who took care of business in a hurry. In addition, our new player, KU Singh, looked good in a three set win and Hernus Pieters and Nathan Pasha won in straight sets to make it a sweep.
This coming Sunday and Monday we play the 1st and 2nd rounds of the National Indoor Team Championships in Athens. In the first round we play TCU. They are a very improved team and should provide a good test. The winner of that match will advance to play the winner of the Nebraska/Va. Tech match in the 2nd round with the winner of our regional advancing to Charlottesville for the Final 16.
In the first competition of the year we had a good weekend at SEC Indoors by advancing a doubles and a singles into the final round but came up short in those matches. Having said that, we had some very solid performances during the MLK weekend. The SEC race will be extremely tough and I predict we could have five teams in the top 10 or 12 teams in the final rankings.
Until next time!
Manny
